Self tapping screws can drill steel plates, but it depends on the thickness of the steel plate. High strength self tapping screws can be used for galvanized steel plates with a thickness of 1.2mm or less, iron sheets, or colored steel tiles. The pointed type is cheaper than drilling tail screws and can save costs. Steel plates with a thickness of 2mm or more need to choose appropriate specifications of drilling tail screws. Drilling tail screws are also a type of self tapping screws that can easily drill through steel plates with a thickness of about 2mm to 6mm.
