The difference between bolts, screws, nuts and studs

Standard fasteners are divided into 12 categories, which are determined by the usage scenarios and functions of the fasteners. The following questions mainly introduce four different standard fasteners: bolts, screws, nuts and studs.

 

Bolts of standard parts: cylindrical headed fasteners that are threaded with nuts. It is a type of fastener consisting of a head and a screw rod. It needs to cooperate with a nut and is used to fasten and connect two parts with through holes. This connection structure is generally called a bolt connection (bolt connection is a detachable connection)

 

Screws of standard parts: commonly used in machinery, electrical appliances, and construction, etc., generally made of metal or plastic, cylindrical, and the surface with concave and convex grooves is called threads. Screws are mainly used to connect two objects, or fix the position of an object. Screws can usually be removed and re-tightened at will without affecting their effectiveness. Generally, the top diameter of the screw is larger, such as round, square or regular hexagonal, and the most common grooves on the top are straight grooves, cross grooves and square grooves.

 

Nuts of standard parts: metal fasteners with a hole in the middle and threads on the inside of the hole. Nuts are often used in combination with bolts of matching models. To fix its joints, most of them are hexagonal, and there are also square ones.

Studs of fasteners: a metal without a head and only with external threads at both ends. When connecting, one end is screwed into a metal piece with an internal threaded hole, and the other end is passed through another metal piece with a through hole, and then tightened with a nut to fix two or more metal pieces into a whole.
