How To Distinguish Between 304 Stainless Steel Self-Tapping Screws And 316 Stainless Steel Self-Tapping Screws?

1. Look at the outer packaging.
In order to prevent confusion, generally manufacturers will directly indicate the material, product name and specifications on the outer packaging.

2. Look directly at the logo.
Commonly used external hexagonal bolts, internal hexagonal screws, nuts, washers, etc. are generally marked by manufacturers. 304 stainless steel starts with "A2", and 316 stainless steel starts with "A4".

3. Do a salt spray test.
For relatively small stainless steel fasteners such as self-tapping screws, they are generally not marked because the cost of marking is too high and the font is too small to read clearly. However, you can judge whether the self-tapping screw is 304 or 316 stainless steel by doing a salt spray test.
Generally, the neutral salt spray of 316 stainless steel is 72-120 hours, and the neutral salt spray of 304 stainless steel is 48-72 hours.

Each metal has its own spectrum. 316 contains more molybdenum (Mo) and nickel (Ni) than 304, so it can be identified through professional spectrum detection. However, this method needs to be done by a professional organization.
