What is the difference between self-tapping screws and normal screws?

Self-tapping screws and normal screws are two of the most popular fastening solutions that are available. While both types of screws are used to join two or more pieces of materials, there are several differences between the two.

Self-tapping screws have a sharp tip that can penetrate through the material they are being fastened to. As the screw is turned, the sharp tip creates a thread that cuts into the material, creating a strong and secure bond. They are also used in applications where the material is too thin to drill or where drilling is not possible. Conversely, normal screws are used when a secure joint or connection is required, and the material being fastened is thick enough to allow a pre-existing hole to be drilled.
