Chipboard screws are used to secure chipboard to itself or to other materials, including natural wood. For improved performance and fewer cracks when driving through hard wood, type 17 cutting points or shank grooves are optional.
The most frequent types are countersunk or flat heads. For a more ornamental appearance, which is preferred, or for attaching to a conical surface, the pan head is chosen instead of the flat head.
Chipboard screws are designed to keep particle board from cracking by having grooved shanks and pointed heads. While pan heads give decorative possibilities, flat or countersunk heads offer a flush surface. Chipboard must be joined using the right screws to prevent splitting.
